I believe in the power of photography. Using the camera as a persuasive tool to bring about social change is important to me. A single photograph can transform lives and give voice to the voiceless. Since the dawn of photography, photographs have revealed and impacted injustices throughout the course of history. One example are the iconic images of Lewis Hine, which exposed child labor in early 1900's America. As a result of Hine's influencial photographs, new laws were enacted to protect children.
What I love most about being behind the camera is the ability it gives me to connect with people from all walks of life. Where there is a language barrier, a friendly and gentle smile becomes the universal language. For me, it's not only about documenting people, but photographing all humanity with dignity and reverence. Each life is a precious and I strive to capture that in each person I photograph.
